The author of wikiislam.net says:
The Qur'an author thought that the sky is like a ceiling that can fall on someone while the earth can swallow someone too. This is obviously impossible as the earth's atmosphere is simply made of gas.
REPLY:
In the following verse there is nothing to put up as a scientific error. The verse says that Earth can swallow someone.Every one knows that it is a metaphor implied to the condition of earthquakes in which one can be metaphorically swallowed.
The second part of verse is to be pondered over. Here is Sahih International translation:

SAHIH INTERNATIONAL
Then, do they not look at what is before them and what is behind them of the heaven and earth? If We should will, We could cause the earth to swallow them or [could] let fall upon them fragments from the sky. Indeed in that is a sign for every servant turning back [to Allah ].
This is the right translation of the verse. We have described in our previous article "Meaning of Sky as well guarded canopy" that sky is a well guarded canopy it protects thousands of meteors and asteroids to strike the Earth.Allah(SWT) says if He wishes he can causes pieces and fragments from the sky{not fragments of these sky}.What these fragments are ,is described in interpretations(tafaseer). In almost all the tafseer (interpretations) of Quran these pieces are described the "pieces of stones".In Holy Quran the prayer of infidels is described as: "Then rain down on us stones from heaven or inflict on us a painful chastisement." Chapter 8 verse 32
The verse quoted by wikiislam.net is the Quranic answer of such prayers of pagans. Thus there is nothing to put as scientific error because today everyone knows that stones can fall from sky.
